Boxer Dogs
By
The boxer dog breed is a loyal, intelligent and obedient performance breed. Boxer dogs were first bred in Germany in the late 1800s. Boxers have derived from the Bullenbeisser dogs, mastiff type dogs. Boxer dog ancestors were large powerful dogs that were used to hunt wild board, deer, deer, pig and other wild animals. Just looking at their ancestors, you already know that boxer dogs are not the type of dogs you would want to mess with. Boxer dog ancestors were bred for their hunting ability, power and strength. Even to this day you can see these qualities run through boxer dogs veins.
Today boxers are medium sized dogs, not as big as the early boxers, and can weigh around 50-70 pounds, male boxer dogs of course weighing more than the female boxers. Adult males can be anywhere from 22-25 inches big and females are around 21-24 inches at shoulder height. Even though boxer dogs are not used for hunting anymore, you will still notice their muscular bodies. To keep boxer dogs in shape you will have to exercise with them daily. Boxers are energetic and playful dogs so keeping them exercising won’t be too hard as long as you are willing to run around and play with them.
Boxers are intelligent dogs but can get a little stubborn at times which can make obedience training harder for you. On the survey done by Stanley Coren, boxer dogs have ranked 48 on his scale of intelligence mainly because of their hardheaded personality. If you know how to work around that, then you can use it to your advantage while training the boxer dog. So if they were originally from Germany does that mean you can only get a full breed dog from there? Well boxer dogs have been bred for centuries now so finding full breed boxers in any part of the world that you may live in shouldn’t be too hard. You can find full breed boxers all throughout Europe, Canada and United states. The key to finding a full bred boxer is finding the right dog breeder. Try to stay away from dog breeders who breed other dog breeds besides boxer dogs. That way you will know that they specialize in boxers. Also a reputable boxer dog breeder will always provide you with a registration certificate or AKC, UKC, or CKC registration numbers. You should also get a three generation pedigree for your boxer puppy.
