What you should know about boxer dog training with boxes The concept behind crate training is that a boxer who, of course, and take care to avoid soiling the area where he eats and sleeps. Every time you place a boxer in the drawer is in the type of boxer dog training to strengthen this instinct. From there, you must take quickly to the area to swimming. If you do, you will not only lead to reverse this process. For this reason, it should allow your puppy to use the bathroom every 45 minutes. Minutes once outside, they give between 3 and 5 to make your business. Otherwise the toilet during this period of time, then you must immediately put it back in its creation. What few know is that the boxer dog actually comes from the strain that was trained and used primarily for fishing purposes, Bullenbeisser Belgian Brabant. To understand how the boxers game can be effective, we first need to return a few hundred years, take a quick look at Bullenbeisser Brabant.

The Brabant Bullenbeisser’s fondness for the elections of the 19th century in Belgium and Germany at a later time. It’s a powerful and active, and intelligent breed that can be taken in almost any game, either for the game, and wild pigs, bears, etc..

And Bullenbeisser building looks like today’s boxer, but his head and pointy ears longer. Because dogs often get ear infections being persecuted in the fast pace through the forest, most of the houses crop their ears since they were puppies. This is also a common practice of hunting dogs, but Boxer Boxer ears are not as great as in Brabant Bullenbeisser.

Finally, the boxer dog hunting Bullenbeisser occurred, mostly from the fact that boxers were much easier to train. Aggression in Boxer Dogs

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Aggression in boxer dogs is a common type of behavior mostly seen in untrained dogs of misinformed owners. This type of behavior is a long foreseen manifestation that, if not picked up by the owner and corrected, could turn ugly. Rarely does aggression in boxer dogs just burst out of nowhere without showing some of the many signs that each owner should be aware of. It’s vital for all boxer puppy owners to eliminate any potential for aggression or dominance long before it occurs. Failure to do so can result in a dominant, aggressive, and a very disobedient dog that will take months to correct.

Early Signs of Dominant Behavior

Aggression is a result of dominance and are closely linked together. What may seem to be just “normal dog behavior”, such as your dog giving you a little growl when you push your puppy off the furniture, is in fact a sign of aggression that you need to look out for.

The following are just some of the early signs of aggression you need to look out for:

The food bowl aggression - Have you ever noticed that your puppy is protective of his food bowl? In an attempt to add more food or take the food bowl away your dog may growl, clearly showing you he’s the boss of it.

Constantly begging for food – By instinct, pack members know that the alpha eats first. If your dog is begging for food, he may view himself as the alpha, thinking he reserves the right to eat first.

Rough playing can often mean that your puppy is becoming dominant. If, during play, your puppy exhibits growling, yelping, and other forms of sounds, it could mean that the puppy has a dominant issue and is not willing to submit to you.

Pulling on leash – In the wild the pack leader walks first and all other pack members follow. Although the majority of the time your puppy is pulling on the leash because he is excited, your mistake is letting him do it, which is why at some point he will develop dominance, assuming that he is the pack leader (since you’re the one that follows HIM!).

If your boxer puppy is protective of his toys this could just as well be early signs of dominance that you should watch out for. Remember, never let your boxer puppy have all the toys at once (so he doesn’t get bored and doesn’t become dominant over them). Rotate them every few days and make sure to praise him for giving them back.

A clear definite point that your boxer developed dominance is when you’re giving him commands that he already knows yet he refuses to carry them out. Small amounts of aggression will become visible and will soon enough turn into violent responses for simple things like making him get off the couch.

What to Do About It

There are many ways to deal with boxer dog aggression and it also depends on the intensity. The bottom line is that if your puppy shows aggression then he thinks he’s the alpha dog. In this situation you have to make him understand that you’re in charge and that you’re not going to take it from him.

It’s important to be careful with an overtly aggressive dog and hire a professional dog trainer in extreme situations. However, in most situations, the owner is capable of solving dominance and aggression problems without hiring a dog trainer.

Follow the simple steps to eliminate boxer dog aggression quickly and effectively.

Boxer Dogs

Posted by: | Comments (0)

boxer-dogThe boxer dog breed is a loyal, intelligent and obedient performance breed. Boxer dogs were first bred in Germany in the late 1800s. Boxers have derived from the Bullenbeisser dogs, mastiff type dogs. Boxer dog ancestors were large powerful dogs that were used to hunt wild board, deer, deer, pig and other wild animals. Just looking at their ancestors, you already know that boxer dogs are not the type of dogs you would want to mess with. Boxer dog ancestors were bred for their hunting ability, power and strength. Even to this day you can see these qualities run through boxer dogs veins.

Today boxers are medium sized dogs, not as big as the early boxers, and can weigh around 50-70 pounds, male boxer dogs of course weighing more than the female boxers. Adult males can be anywhere from 22-25 inches big and females are around 21-24 inches at shoulder height. Even though boxer dogs are not used for hunting anymore, you will still notice their muscular bodies. To keep boxer dogs in shape you will have to exercise with them daily. Boxers are energetic and playful dogs so keeping them exercising won’t be too hard as long as you are willing to run around and play with them.

Boxers are intelligent dogs but can get a little stubborn at times which can make obedience training harder for you. On the survey done by Stanley Coren, boxer dogs have ranked 48 on his scale of intelligence mainly because of their hardheaded personality. If you know how to work around that, then you can use it to your advantage while training the boxer dog. You can read on more about training boxers on the tricks to train your boxer page or check out the secrets to boxer training.

So if they were originally from Germany does that mean you can only get a full breed dog from there? Well boxer dogs have been bred for centuries now so finding full breed boxers in any part of the world that you may live in shouldn’t be too hard. You can find full breed boxers all throughout Europe, Canada and United states. The key to finding a full bred boxer is finding the right dog breeder. Try to stay away from dog breeders who breed other dog breeds besides boxer dogs. That way you will know that they specialize in boxers. Also a reputable boxer dog breeder will always provide you with  a registration certificate or AKC, UKC, or CKC registration numbers. You should also get a three generation pedigree for your boxer puppy.

Adopting a Boxer Dog

Posted by: | Comments (3)

While looking for boxer puppies, many people lookboxedog for different resources to find the boxer puppy of their dreams. Some may look at the newspaper for advertisements from boxer dog breeders who are selling new boxer puppies; other people look for boxer dog breeders through listings on the internet, while still more may simply purchase a boxer dog from their local pet store.  Possibly the best way to find the perfect boxer puppy, however, in terms of being helpful to society in general is to adopt a boxer puppy from a local dog rescue shelter.

Adopting a boxer dog brings a new companion into your home.  It can also help to decrease reduce the number of unwanted and homeless dogs.  Unless the shelter is a “no kill” facility (and these are unfortunately rare to stumble on), it may also save a dog from being put to sleep.  Boxer dog lovers everywhere support the adoption of dogs from shelters as opposed to any other method of bringing home a new pet for this reason alone, but there are other reasons to choose the adoption option when looking to adopt a boxer dog.

  • Adopted boxer dogs have had their shots
  • Shelters often have information about a dog’s temperament and history
  • Adopting a pet frees space in the shelter for more unfortunate boxer dogs

When you adopt a boxer dog you can be sure that the staff at the shelter has had the dog examined by a vet for disease and fleas and that the boxer dog that you plan to adopt has had its shots.  You can’t be always sure about that with boxer dogs acquired by other means such as people giving away “free boxer puppies” from a box in front of the local grocery store or pet store.

Boxers dogs at a dog shelter are not just strays picked up off the street and often are given to the dog shelter by previous owners for different reasons.  When this happens, the dog shelter collects as much information concerning the boxer dog as there is available, along with whether its good with family, how much the boxer dog barks, how mischievous or obedient it is, whether its housebroken, and other crucial details.  While it’s possible that this information is only as good as the truthfulness of the past owner, most of the time it is quite accurate.  Adopting a boxer dog could possibly save the dogs life and allows the shelter to bring in another dog in its place to be taken care of. So if you are looking for a boxer puppy for yourself, try your local adoption center and you might just find the boxer dog that you were looking for.

Boxers and Cats Getting Along

Posted by: | Comments (5)

Usually when you think of a dog and a cat an immediate sense of rivalry comes to mind. However, is it necessarily true? Do all dogs have an instant urge to chase down a cat when they see one? Generally speaking, the answer would be yes even for the sweet and loving boxer. Most dogs do enjoy to chase cats around.

When comparing boxers and cats with each other, you will immediately see a huge difference in size. Boxers are a lot larger than cats which can be intimidating for them. Wouldn’t you be afraid of someone with sharp teeth who is larger than you running towards you? So you shouldn’t be surprised if you see a cat running away from your boxer when you take him out for a walk. Chances are the cat isn’t running just from boxer dog but from you as well.

So it’s understandable why cats would run off when they see a boxer dog nearby, but why do dogs chase after them? Well simply put, it’s because the cat is running away and dogs were bred to chase things down. Dogs will chase pretty much anything that is running away from them, and boxer dogs are no different. If a boxer sees a squirrel running away from him he will try to chase it down just as he would try to get the cat. If you own a boxer yourself then you must have already realized that while playing with your boxer, if you start running your boxer will begin to chase you without you calling for him. So it’s not that boxers dislike cats it’s just that they were originally bred as hunting dogs, just as many dog breeds out there, and are instinctively inclined to chase down other animals that are running away.

Can Boxers and Cats Ever Get Along?

boxer dog and catIf you own a boxer already and plan on getting a cute kitten then things might be a bit tough at first. Unfortunately you can’t really predict how your boxer will react to the new household pet. Your boxer and the cat might hit it off good from the start or they might not like each other at all. The way the boxer dog was raised will have a lot to do with the boxers reaction.

If your boxer dog is still a puppy and the cat is still a kitten then chances of them becoming playmates are really high even without your help. The boxer will just accept the kitten as part of the pack and will get along with the kitten just fine. If your boxer is a puppy and your cat is a full grown adult cat then you might be a little carefully because the cat may get a bit defensive when the boxer puppy runs at him with full speed trying to play.

If your boxer is a full grown adult and you’re not sure how it will react to a new addition to the family then you must slowly introduce them to each other. Have a friend or a family member hold your boxer dog in place while you bring the cat into the room and watch their reactions.

Even if you know for a fact that your boxer dog will not attack the cat it’s still advised that you keep him on a leash because chances are your boxer will dash towards the cat scaring him. A cat that feels threatened will get his trusty claws out and defend itself so be careful.
